As I mentioned, Chip and Margaret are only going to be on St. John for a short time so we’re going to pack as much island adventure as we can today!
We start off in the morning going to the Annaberg Ruins which are found going toward the east end of the island. The ruins are a sad part of St. John’s history. Established in the early 1700’s by the Danish government, a sugar mill was built and they enslaved the natives to plant and harvest cotton and sugar cane. It wasn’t until 1848 were they granted freedom. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for the natives to have their beautiful island taken over and their freedom taken away from them😢

Preservation of the past helps us to recognize the suffering of former generations of the St. John natives and not ignore their history.

After visiting the ruins, we are headed to Haulover Bay for some snorkeling but before we get there it’s imperative (in my mind) to stop a Skinny Legs for some beer and a good burger🍔😋

After we fill our bellies, we head to Haulover Bay. Unfortunately the north side, which has the more beautiful underwater sea life and coral, is too turbulent this day so we opt for the quiet south bay.

But there is decent snorkeling on this side and we enjoy!

On our way back to Cruz Bay, we decide to go to Maho Bay so Chip and Margaret can have time swimming with the turtles who hang out there🤗. It’s a guarantee you WILL see turtles so it’s also a very popular beach.
But before we leave the east end, we grab a picture overlooking Coral Bay…

Luckily, since we arrive later in the afternoon, we can find a shady spot to plop our belongings and jump into Maho Bay water!

Exhausted from our day, we head back and rinse off the sand and saltwater to meet up at Longboard for some seafood and tropical drinks. I love Longboard because my good friend, Korena, is one of the bartenders and she makes my favorite drink , French 75, to perfection 😉

Beautiful end to a beautiful day!
