Not My Typical Blog…(present day off)

So, between having the flu then Covid back to back, my April was pretty non-existent. It would be nice when you have to be off work and stay in your bedroom for 20 days to be able to get my taxes done. But the headache that came with both these illnesses didn’t really allow for that. Then I picked up extra days at work for missing so much while ill. So this past Saturday was spent figuring the federal and Indiana forms ( no computer here on island) and Easter Sunday spent at church and with friends afterwards.

This is my long-winded excuse for not having my usual Tuesday blog which is picking up in 2017.

So I decided to document my off day, today 5/19/22 , spent with daughter #2, Cortney, so you could experience what it’s like on a day off work in the Caribbean. We have decided to have a day on St. Thomas.

So I leave my apartment and walk the 52 steps up to the road where Cortney will pick me up.
There she is! We want to catch the 12 (noon) ferry so we hurry off.
But first, before going to the ferry dock, Cortney has to drop off her taxes at the Internal Bureau of Revenue in person to be stamped “because I have to according to my accountant or you never now what will happen to them!” Yes, the last day is today for VI taxes because the bureau was closed for Easter Monday holiday. Life in the Virgin Islands😀
Then we wait in line to get a ferry ticket and find out the ferries are running only every other hour!!! We are lucky since they leave on the even hours from Cruz Bay to Red Hook, St. Thomas but sure stinks for people who planned to go on the 11 to catch their flight on the only airport out of the VI on St. Thomas😓
We opt for outdoor seating
What a beautiful day!
Ducks at the swimming pool ☺️
Make it home to my apartment with Smoochie, the owners dog, guarding the gate entry. See his little dreadlock?

All in all, it was a great little adventure to St. Thomas on our mutual day off work. So nice to have a daughter who is also your friend!

Hi, I’m Rose. I am a single dental hygienist with grown children who lives/works part time in the States and part time on St. John, US Virgin Islands. I also love to travel. I would have stories about things that would happen either on St John or the various places I’ve visited. Many of my stories would be about unusual things that people in the states are not used to and some where a picture painted a thousand words. So when my friends encouraged me to write a blog, I was hesitant. Would anyone read it? The advice given: those who care will read it and those who do not care, don’t worry about. Here’s my blog for those who care to know me a little better and sometimes get a good laugh or just want to see what island life is all about.
