It’s Saturday night and after a nice hike and swim at Solomon during the day, I get ready to attend ‘Light Up the Night’. The event is sponsored by the St. John Cancer Fund. There is a ticket price to enter the ballfield where the event is held with concessions, games and bands. Also, you can take a chance at a special raffle at $150 a ticket with only 250 sold . The raffle prizes are amazing! Some are weeklong stays at resorts including a fabulous dinner at one of their best restaurants. Others are boat trips to the BVI or jewelry from an exclusive store. 100% of the funds are used to help and support residents who have cancer on the island of St. John. This is huge since healthcare opportunities are very limited in the USVI.

The event starts with many of the school children starting the walk in downtown Cruz Bay and who lead the way to the ballpark. You can purchase a luminary in remembrance or to recognize a friend or family member who has or had cancer.

The walk continues overnight until 8 in the morning! Music and food is provided throughout the 18 hour event. It was very heartwarming to see so many attend and contribute to this fundraiser. It was a great way to commemorate those who are or had battled cancer!
Now the following Saturday was something completely different, Reggae in the Ruins.

Reggae in the Ruins is hosted by Love City Live which puts on different event/performances throughout the USVI . This event is held at Suzannaberg Ruins on the Suzannaberg Estate, originally purchased by Neptune Richards back in the 1950s. He helped create the national park by giving over 200 acres of land but keeping a good amount for his family who still live there today. The family estate has hosted weddings, movie nights, historical tours, private events, and concerts like this evening.

We are excited to be part of this event and set up our vending tent.

The venue is well attended by people coming over from St. Thomas on the ferry and also St. John locals since concerts are rare events.

We were having a blast! Meeting new people, dancing to the music, have a good sales with the sandals…… and then the rain came! Some were smart to bring umbrellas ,since it is the rainy season, and others like me got soaked! Ha!

All in all it was great fun! Now to take the tent and the bins of sandals down the muddy slope to our car……..😩🙁
